The application range of plastics and rubber for industrial products include the automotive industry, construction project, electronic high-tech industry, packaging industry, medical industry and the biotech industry. Many products made of plastics and rubber possesses key features used in functions related to buffering between objects. The unique properties of plastics and rubber products make them the most intimately related industrial products to human life.

International Trends: Innovative materials, environmental regeneration
Interpack, one of the world's biggest trade shows, held every three years in Germany, successfully concluded on May 10th of 2017. It has been observed that the United Nations is devoted to eradicating global hunger and hoping to solve the problem of food shortages and waste. It is clear that any progress in the area of food storage and a reduction of food waste must also involve discussions about innovative packaging materials for sustainable development. Chinaplas, is known as the biggest annual event in Asia using "Intelligent manufacturing, High-tech materials, and Environmental technology" as the theme, to discuss "Automation technology, composite and special materials, and recycled technology". The event will conclude it's schedule on May 19th.

Policy Direction: Follow the footsteps of the world and strengthen food safety
After the government announced a New Southbound Policy, the Green Trade Project Office of Economic Affairs held the "Taiwan Green Industry Forum" and invited the New Southbound countries, such as India, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines to join the conference. We introduced our plastics and rubber components with the spirit of environmental protection to the target markets and buyers, and to improve the popularity of green products in the global market.

Besides, plastics are the standard food packaging material in Taiwan, the Industrial Development Bureau has entrusted the Plastics Industry Development Center to push forward a four-year project called "Plastic Products Improvement Plan". From temperature testing to food freshness instruction, the Center has already been developed a series of intelligent, color-changing food packaging products. This year, the project has reached an even higher level by researching tightly-sealed packaging material and the new technology of E. coli display detectors to extend the safety and expiry dates of food. The Industrial Development Bureau of the Ministry of Economic Affairs formed the "Plastics Industry Development Center" and have been making significant efforts for the industry for more than 24 years in the Taichung Industrial Park. Moreover, it has published 19 technical achievements. More research motivation can be expected.

Taiwanese Manufacturers: Following up on International Environmental Issues
With the rapid development of plastics and rubber technology, Taiwanese manufacturers need to keep up with new trends and concerns with producing environmentally friendly products. It must deliver quality to survive in a competitive international market. For example, CHI MEI CORPORATION has announced their newest products: The POLYLAC® ABS Resin and the KIBISAN® SAN. These two materials have passed the latest strict safety regulations that have been formulated by the European Union, China, Germany, America and Japan to solve the safety concerns over food containers and kitchen utensils releasing chemical substances. They are also becoming the best choice for all kinds of packaging and containers.
