Taiwan’s machine tool export revitalizes in 2017
The 26th edition of TIMTOS (March 7th – 12th) has curtained successfully. The show centered on topics related to IoT, which actively shapes the demographic of Taiwan’s machine tools developmental path. A number of exhibitors have displayed their latest R&D in intelligent machine, automation systems, energy-efficient products and software. The concept of Industry 4.0 has been seen a full realization this time at TIMTOS. International visitors and media who participated in TIMTOS this year deeply feel the vibrant energy of Taiwan’s machine sector. The total visitors of the 26th edition of TIMTOS have reached 50,146, including domestic visitors 42,807 and international buyers 7,339.
Up to February 2017, Taiwan’s machinery export is performing well, compared to the same period of time in 2016, the export has grown 13.5%, mounted to 451,77million USD. Amidst the pressure of devalued Japanese Yen for over 50%, on top of complicated international machinery competitions, the fact that Taiwan machinery export is able to surge is exhilarating. Hope that the positive effects from TIMTOS will keep influencing the performance of Taiwan’s machine tool industry in 2017.
According to the World Bank, the global economic activity will gradually recover in 2017, after experiencing a new low last year since the financial crisis. The organization estimates that the world economy will grow 2.7%, up from 2.3% last year. Taiwan’s machine tool industry holds the key of the future technology that machine tools require. It is thus a critical opportunity for Taiwan’s machine builders to cherish this time of global recovery and ship the new generation machines to global destinations. According to IHS Automotive’s analysis, China will have 30 million vehicles demands in the year 2020, which is a 8 million increase from 2013. These new generation autos will be focusing on all the most advanced technology – digitalized, light-weight, and green. As one of the biggest importer of automotive manufacturing machine tools to China, Taiwan must strengthen the technology for IoT, lean production and innovative mechanical designs in order to meet the ever-changing demands.
On the other hand, Taiwan is also embarking on the journey to develop aerospace manufacturing on the island, this time, a milestone agreement was signed during TIMTOS, which guarantees a huge leap forward in this field. AIDC (Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation), NARLabs (National Applied Research Laboratories) and Siemens has signed a cooperation agreement on ‘aerospace intelligent machines and smart manufacturing’ on March 9th during TIMTOS 2017. It will improve Taiwan’s aerospace manufacturing ability in manufacturing, systematic design and technical innovation. Regarding to Taiwan’s aerospace industry, the country has turned a new page, and let us hope that this ground-breaking alliance will help us reach the goal of ‘Taiwan aircrafts made by Taiwan machines.’
Following the end of TIMTOS 2017, Taiwan’s manufacturers are quickly running in front of the tide of a heated global economy, and keep their strengths in supplying integrated solutions.
