CS Group - Leading the Way in Smart Manufacturing for Plastic Injection

Since 1974, Fu Chun Shin (FCS) has experienced steady year-on-year growth, becoming a world-class powerhouse in the field of injection molding machinery (IMM).

Service Differentiation Sets FCS apart

“Service differentiation” is not just a motto, but an expression of Fu Chun Shin’s comprehensive approach to service. Instead of just selling and servicing machinery, Fu Chun Shin’s service includes working with customers on product design, required molds, and the plastic materials to be used. The company has established three sales & service offices in Taiwan, and more than thirty offices in China, with approximately forty service agents located in countries around the world. At any given time, there are hundreds of professional technicians on standby to serve FCS customers.

FCS has been an early adaptor of smart manufacturing. Last year, FCS launched its iMF 4.0 (Intelligent Manufactory), a smart production management system linked to the company's FA-160 and FA-300 standard toggle hydraulic injection molding machines (IMM), as well as the CT-300 electric IMM. This solution for off-site production management is based on cycle time management and introduces the concept of mold, machine, and material management integrated into a single system. The iMF 4.0 system uses the OPC protocol to deliver instant display of equipment efficiency and error reporting. OPC is a software interface standard that allows Windows programs to communicate with industrial hardware devices. The company’s iMF 4.0 has been enthusiastically embraced by customers worldwide, especially those in the United States. Several smart solutions have been deployed in Taiwan already, with more slated to come online in other countries soon.

Sincerely and Logically Approaches to Environmental Concerns

With an increasing awareness worldwide of environmental concerns, plastics have come under increased scrutiny. From the viewpoint of FCS, the point is not to eliminate the use of plastics, but to make sure that they are used wisely, and recycled wherever possible. One example of this approach is to simply increase the accuracy of IMM machinery. This lowers the defect rate, and reduces environmental waste. Other design features have been implemented by FCS to reduce the pollution from the injection molding process.

To show that the company fully “walks the walk,” in March of this year, FCS opened a new factory in Batam, Indonesia. This factory manufactures pallets from recycled Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) material. This kind of recycling creates an environmentally-friendly alternative to wooden, metal and cardboard shipping pallets. In addition to this strong earth-friendly move, FCS has implemented comprehensive wastewater treatment facilities at all of its plants. This wastewater treatment includes not only water used in industrial processes, but all water used by the facilities.

However, in FCS’s experience, the China automotive industry is currently in a slump, while the U.S. market has been stable, with slow but steady growth. Like many other manufacturers, FCS has diversified its production base, by establishing factories in China and India that are ready to satisfy local market needs.

In order to stay competitive, FCS has cooperated with the makers of MuCell®. This microcellular foam injection molding process provides unique design flexibility and cost savings opportunities not found in conventional injection molding. Advantages include plastic part design with material wall thickness optimized for functionality, and density reduction that results in material and weight savings.

Shaping a Better World

FCS Group has implemented a new corporate philosophy in order to create high value added products, and to integrate the business strategies of globalization and diversification. In addition to the original business of injection molding machine R & D, manufacturing and sales, FCS has also branched out into the magnetic cable business, optoelectronics, and materials technology. Based on the company’s solid foundations, this company is clearly destined to lead the way in many high-tech fields, and to enhance long-term international competitiveness of the FCS group.
