Victor Taichung Machinery: Integrating smart transformation in industrial chain

— Interview with Frank Lin, Manager of Overseas Marketing Division

Victor Taichung Machinery: Integrating smart transformation in industrial chain

In 2020, COVID-19 epidemic has a huge impact on Taiwan's machine tool industry. However, Victor Taichung Machinery has begun its smart transformation long before the epidemic broke out, and has planned to extend the company's industrial chain to various machine tool fields. Its one-stop solution allows customers to avoid the heavy purchase of machines and services from different manufacturers. In addition, it introduces smart factory line into the production process, and integrates all services through a dedicated online platform app to provide customers with comprehensive planning.

TIMTOS 2021 Highlight: Victor Taichung Machinery App

Frank Lin said that in the past few years, the company has been thinking about the topic of transformation: "how to create an intelligent company?" After two years of brainstorming, the final solution is: to create "Victor Taichung Machinery App". After another year of collecting data and programming, spending nearly NT$4 million, and overcoming the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, the app finally will complete in 2021 and will be unveiled at the TIMTOS exhibition.

"All Victor Taichung Machinery's agents and subsidiaries in major markets around the world can place orders directly according to customer needs through the app, and can also understand the status of all the company's machines." said Alan Hu, senior manager of the Marketing Service Department. The app publishes various model manuals and operate videos. Once a customer's machine has a problem, the agent can immediately use the information for after-sales service, and even directly provide immediate service in an emergency. The app’s cloud database contains not only the maintenance records of the old machines, but even the arrival and receipt of the new machines can be performed digitally. In the future, it is planned to create a function that allows customers to directly purchase machines.

Use smart connection to get rid of the stereotype: "machine vendor"

In order to become the most exemplary industry 4.0 manufacturing factory in Taiwan, Victor Taichung Machinery's digital transformation had already begun before the outbreak. This app can not only provide services related to machine operation, even the webinars of the machine can also be played online through this platform, allowing customers and agents to communicate more closely. The company also plans to keep up with the trend and post “unboxing” articles for all new machines, so that customers can easily find the most suitable model for them.

Alan Hu concluded: "The epidemic just proved that the company's direction is in line with the trend." The company’s digital transformation also includes getting rid of the stereotype of "machine vendor". The goal is to integrate all related industry chains through using intelligent connections among machine tools, robotic arms, automatic measurement, scheduling software and IoT, allowing customers who are not in the factory to follow the operating status of the machines in the factory. In the future, the company plans to install a black box recorder inside each machine tool to collect data, so that engineers can understand the machine status through the Internet without going to the site, and use the network or video to initially troubleshoot and even prevent malfunctions. This can greatly improve the efficiency of equipment maintenance.
