Contactless Economy and AIoT Spurred by COVID-19 Pandemic

Mar.23, 2020

With reduced contact and gathering during the COVID-19 pandemic, the contactless economy is expected to grow exponentially in the coming years. As a major supplier in the global ICT sector, Taiwan can offer comprehensive smart AIoT solutions for both businesses and individuals amid the global crisis.

Currently, with over 210,000 people in the world diagnosed with COVID-19, many countries have declared the situation a national emergency and enforced border lockdowns.

Such volatility has shocked global financial and stock markets, and mounting signs of global economic contraction looks to plunge the world into a recession. Analysts have cut global growth forecasts for the year, attributing to the apparent shutdown of global economic activities in the first quarter.

While numerous businesses have been affected, the drastic lockdown measures taken by governments around the world to curb the pandemic have accelerated the growth of tele-business that offer remote and contactless services. Up surges in business have been observed in areas including telemedicine, online courses, video conferencing, remote working applications, e-commerce and smart automated solutions.

In ushering in the contactless economy, it becomes crucial for businesses to deepen their digital transformation and adopt a new tele-business model. Research indicated the global AIoT market will grow from US$5.1 billion in 2019 to US$16.2 billion in 2024.
