TAITRA Online Product Launch Event Introduces Detection Systems for Combating COVID-19

5/May/2020

TAITRA, the largest nonprofit trade promoting organization of Taiwan, is using online technology to connect and empower global communities with a wide array of tools and solutions from Taiwanese innovators for combating the COVID-19 pandemic.

A major highlight of TAITRA’s online efforts is the series of online product launch events the organization has been hosting since 30 March. The first of the online events attracted 90 companies from 15 European countries. Given the success of the online product launches, many events were held subsequently that enabled buyers from around the world to procure everything from stay-at-home solutions and home entertainment equipment to contactless supplies and products.

The April 27 session was the 8th event. It was joined by 7 prominent Taiwanese biotech firms and research institutes who introduced their latest innovations for rapid COVID-19 testing and detection.

Among them was The AEP Alliance, a group of 3 top biotech companies: AnTaimmu BioMed, EirGenix, and Panion& BF Biotech. The group offered an antigen test kit capable of providing results on earlier-infected individuals within 10 minutes by taking nasal mucus samples without using extra equipment. The group received more than 60 inquiries from companies based in countries including France, India, and Canada.

Leadgene Biomedical, a company that developed a 10-15 minute antigen and antibody testing solution without causing cross-reactivity to MERS and general coronaviruses, also received multiple international inquiries.

General Biologicals Corporation introduced its real-time RT-PCR assay and antibody rapid tests. Both featured high level precision and quick response. The RT-PCR test kits were shipped and deployed in France, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia.

QuarkBio offered its innovative dqPCR (Digital/Quantitative PCR) analysis system for detecting trace amounts of the coronavirus. According to the company, the system is 10 times more sensitive than conventional PCR tests and that it has been designed to test 6 samples in 90 minutes.

KimForest presented its high sensitivity and specificity PCR-based assay. The assay is capable of providing results within 50 minutes, and it is expected to gain FDA certification in the near future.

The Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) demonstrated its Portable Intelligent Rapid Molecular Diagnostic System featuring various advantages including extra-light weight, high sensitivity, high accuracy, and high efficiency.

TCI Gene presented the world’s first fully automated virus scanner. The scanner is operated by robotic arms, and it is designed for 24/7 workloads to test around 900 specimens daily at high accuracy. The company received multiple international inquiries, including those from several U.S.-based industry heavyweights.
