TAIWAN confident about safeguarding the public from the coronavirus outbreak

Feb.11, 2020

As of today, Monday Feb 10, the latest reports state that the number of total confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection in China (including Hong Kong SAR at 29 and Macau SAR at 10) is 40,250, followed by a cruise ship currently in international conveyance (130), Singapore (43), Thailand (32), Republic of Korea (27), Japan (25), Malaysia (18), Taiwan (18), Australia (15), Germany (14), Vietnam (14), United States of America (12), France (11), and Canada (7).

On Feb 9 Taiwan reported one more case of infection by the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV), involving the country's first asymptomatic patient, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 18. One patient has already been discharged from hospital having fully recovered. The rest are recovering well and are in a stable condition.

Despite its close geographical proximity to China (including Hong Kong and Macao), the most extreme areas of infection in the novel coronavirus outbreak, Taiwan remains fully confident of being able to protect members of the public through the stringent measures that have been implemented, a transparent system of reporting, and one of the best healthcare systems in the world.

Given that exhibitors and visitors from quarantined countries will be unable to travel in the upcoming months, TAITRA is closely monitoring the situation and will implement any and all necessary contingency plans to ensure the health and safety of visitors and exhibitors to all events being held in Taiwan.
