Taiwan to Export Face Masks & Production Machineries for Combating COVID-19

29/May/2020

Other than maintaining social distancing measures, one of the most effective ways to combat the spread of the coronavirus is to wear face masks. The Taiwan government has announced that the nation is ready to export surgical grade face masks and production machineries on June 1, 2020.

So far, Taiwan’s COVID-19 containment efforts have been effective, with no lockdowns taking place and most businesses and schools operating as usual. One of the key success factors on curbing the spread of the coronavirus was the wearing of face masks early on during the initial outbreak period. By wearing face masks, the population was better protected from virus-carrying droplets in high risk spaces. The entire nation has been wearing face masks since the outbreak began.

Drawing from previous experiences of the SARS outbreak, Taiwan was among the first countries to act early to prevent the coronavirus from spreading. Early on during the outbreak, the Taiwan government collaborated with local smart machinery and automation sectors to increase mask production to meet demands domestically. Taiwan is now the second largest face mask manufacturing country in the world.

Currently, with sufficient amount supplied domestically, Taiwan can also supply the global community with top quality surgical masks and mask production machinery. The nation’s highest daily output of masks has now reached 20 million pieces, with an average daily capacity of 18 million to 19 million pieces.

Facing a shortage of face masks during the initial outbreak, Taiwan’s smart machinery and automation sectors collaborated with the government to rapidly increase mask production. In a show of support of the government’s lead, nationwide machinery manufacturers quickly answered the call and pooled together their resources to offer integrated solutions. Since then, public and private sectors around the world have expressed interest in procuring mask machinery from Taiwan.
