Remote and real-time monitoring, selfdiagnosis for preventive maintenance, as well as intelligent machinery and smart managing communities, these Industry 4.0 developments are inevitable directions for manufacturers globally. Given that, it has been a tough task for machinery builders to find the right path to develop digital platforms. The Intelligent Cloud Platform for Machinery Cloud is a project supported by both the Taiwan government and technical institutes, and can now act as crucial support to assist small & medium-scale machine builders to easily add and build smart manufacturing platforms.
Taking a collaboration with Fu Chun Shin (FCS) as an example, the cloud system covers mold flow auto-analysis, abnormality detection, machine health monitoring, and big data collection for product quality optimization. With a smart machine box installed on each machine and communi cation under OPC UA standards, data can be downloaded remotely through remote Apps, providing much higher production efficiency and maintaining high production standards due to reduced reaction times.
Unlike the traditional sampling check method conducted manually, which can still result in defective products not being discovered, this smart cloud platform can achieve full product quality checks to ensure all production meets predetermined quality standards. Additionally, ESG is an increasingly important element in today's production. For plastics production, the smart cloud can detect harmful airborne particles such as formaldehyde or other PM2.5 fine particles, allowing operators to quickly react and maintain a safe working environment.
Smart manufacturing reduces redundant steps and elevates the overall production, and can effectively solve the problems of labor instability faced by many factories in the post-pandemic period. With collaborative input from the government, research institutes, associations, and manufacturers, Taiwan plastics and rubber machinery manufacturers remain crucial partners for next-generation production.
