An Effective IoT Water Management Solution for Corporate ESG with UnaBiz
UnaMIU is an easy-to-install lower power device with an 8-year battery lifespan. The retrofit one-on-one reader can be installed speedily, thus lowering the cost for deployment and maintenance.

Water scarcity is a global problem that must not be taken lightly. According to the United Nations, Taiwan is one of the top 18 water-scarce countries. Governments and enterprises must consider water management with great prudence and caution, as it is not solely a problem of whether there is sufficient rainfall.

According to 2021's statistics published by the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS) of the Executive Yuan in Taiwan, the average water usage per person per day in Taipei is 330 litres, the highest in Taiwan. With that said the Taipei government has been actively searching for solutions since 2020 to prevent a possible water crisis. As an upcoming first step towards building a smart water grid, it will roll out a total of 1.68 million smart water meters across Taipei city.

UnaBiz is the quality vendor for Taipei government's "Smart Water Meter project". It's custom-made smart water reader, UnaMIU is a meter interface unit designed to read and transmit data through low power 0 G network. It consumes considerably less energy and has an 8-year battery lifespan - identical to that of the water meter. This easy-to-install retrofit device can be deployed and maintained at a much lower cost than its predecessor.

The Taiwan managing director of UnaBiz Carter Ho remarks, "UnaBiz has rolled out thousands of smart water meters across Taipei city. The overall data transmitting efficiency and accuracy are both over 99%. This reliable system allows the government to collect a large amount of data within a very short period of time and allows them to respond accordingly with valid solutions through behaviour analysis."

UnaBiz has been an excellent exhibitor at TIWW since 2019. This year, this massive IoT service provider will present a more comprehensive smart water management platform, offering both custom-made software and hardware solutions for the enterprise application market.

Managing Director Ho believes that "Water management is not just about saving on the cost of water. It is about whether an enterprise is able to survive and compete sustainably. When enterprises implement water saving measures, they often limit themselves to installing valves, or trying to cut down on the total water use. They have yet to understand the importance of sufficient and detailed water data. Through a smart water system, enterprises will be able to monitor their water usage and supply, analyse water usage of individual sectors, set up leak alarms, compile reports, and analyse their data."

Managing Director Ho added, "The Operations teams will have all necessary information at a glance, thus allowing them to quickly grasp and compare the data of different departments, sectors, and periods. Aside from meeting operational needs, the smart water system is also a key tool for ESG reports or result assessment. Due to global water scarcity, energy saving and carbon reduction have become ever more pressing matters for enterprises. ESG criteria become a key indicator for many international corporations, which will have to set and announce their annual goals either directly or adhere to EU or U.S. standards set by their headquarters."

Presently, the IoT industry consists of a very diversified supply chain. For example, hardware, communications, software, platform, and the service sector all have their respective suppliers. When a problem occurs, the end user will be at a loss. This is where UnaBiz comes in. UnaBiz offers a one-stop integrated service that monitors all aspects of the system. With total control, UnaBiz is able to quickly respond and fix the problem as soon as it is reported. This efficient troubleshooting mechanism offers customers a more comprehensive, accessible, and better quality service.

The know-how of water management accumulated from their experience of the smart water meter project laid the foundation for building a highly sufficient and efficient platform. Ho stresses, "We have a highly professional system development team ready to communicate, identify and pinpoint the needs of our customers, even those from traditional industries who have very little experience in digitization. Our team will ensure the final application meets the demand of the user. Needless to say, the installation of the follow-up training after the platform or solution is essential as well."

Data is the new gold. The smart water management platform of UnaBiz will help enterprises stay ahead in the wave of digital transformation and smart innovation.
