About the Company

The Global Water Quality Research Center (GWQRC) was formed in 2013 by National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), China Steel Corporation (CSC) group, and the South Australian Water Corporation through its research provider the Australian Water Quality Centre (AWQC). GWQRC is based on An-Nan Campus of NCKU and is managed by Sustainable Environment Research Laboratories (SERL), NCKU. The mission of GWQRC are:

    • Explore important frontier water quality and wastewater issues and find innovative solutions.
    • Conduct leading-edge research projects associated with water quality.
    • Develop novel techniques in the monitoring, treatment, and management of water quality.
    • Share knowledge within the three organizations and with international water community and agencies.

Brief Introduction of the Products

  • This system was developed to aim for offering water and aquaculture industries a rapid, precise, and low-cost method to detect cyanobacteria, cyanotoxins, and taste and odor compounds in water and aquaculture products. An AI-based image recognition cell-phone APP has been developed to near-real-time identify harmful cyanobacteria in water, using image taken from a low-cost handheld microscope. An immunoassay test kit was developed for the rapid determination of cyanotoxins and T&O compounds. Seven biomolecular analytical kits and a database were developed to quantify the functional genes for cyanotoxins and T&O compounds. The data obtained serve as the benchmarks for water-relevant industry managers to determine their response actions and to secure the quality of their water and products.
