About:

The Environment and Development Foundation (EDF) was founded in 1997, as a not-for-profit environmental organization, supervised by the Environmental Protection Administration Executive Yuan, R.O.C.(Taiwan).

The main services and expertise of EDF include certification of green products and services, promotion of energy saving, carbon reduction and green consumption, regional energy planning, wastewater treatment and recycling technologies, waste treatment and resource regeneration technologies, anaerobic digestion technology, as well as green building material development and promotion of green buildings, etc.

Brief Introduction of the Products:
1. Project of improving the water efficiency of industries

In order to achieve the goal of 75% industrial water recovery rate by 2031, the Industrial Development Bureau of the Ministry of Economic Affairs has entrusted the EDF to implement the “Project of Improving the Water Efficiency of Industrial Park” since 2013.

Some tasks were conducted to strengthen the water management of manufacturers and assist the manufacturers to improve their water efficiency, including the promotion of water-saving counseling by manufacturers, water resources integration, training events for water management staff, observation and learning activities of high-performance manufacturers, and submitting water use plan of industrial parks, etc.

From 2013 to 2021, a total of 674 manufacturers have been coached, and the annual water-saving is about 48 million tons. The industrial water recovery rate has increased significantly from 46% in 2005 to 73% in 2021.

2. Water resources integration

In order to improve the overall water efficiency of industrial parks and reduce the amount of tap water taken, the water resources integration has been promoted in recent years. The concept is to provide the wastewater discharged by manufacturers or wastewater treatment plants (as water supplier) in the industrial park to the manufacturers (as water demander) for reuse in accordance with the water quality requirements of the water demander. There are two types of promotion of water resources integration:

  • Type 1:The discharged water from Plant A is supplied to Plant B for reuse, which can reduce the drainage volume of Plant A and the water intake of Plant B.
  • Type 2:The discharged water from the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) in the industrial park is provided for use by neighboring manufacturers.
