Water Resource Agency Hosts TIWW International Forum, Exploring Innovative Strategies for Water Sustainability
The United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are an urgent call for action by all countries to achieve sustainability, hoping to find a development model that meets the needs of the modern world without compromising the benefits of future generations. All living things need water to survive. Without water, civilization as we know it would not exist. However, extreme weather ramps up with devastatingly frequent floods and droughts that wreak havoc in different places globally. In the face of climate change, how to think outside the box and lay the foundation for sustainable development and an eco-friendly environment through innovative and forward-looking water strategies, while keeping the global development going and taking into account the rights and interests of the next generation goes beyond just a philosophical question, and more of a critical issue for experts in the field of water resources.

Water Scarcity Is No More Threat in A Sustainable...
It has never been easy to conserve or distribute water in a mountainous region like Taiwan. Extreme weather made the matter even worse. In 2021, the worst drought in a century hit Taiwan and caused great damage. If it were not for the collaborative effort of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the industry and the private sector, Taiwan would not be able to overcome the challenge. As a result, new water resource has since become a prominent issue. Many companies turned their attention to seawater desalination and reclaimed water. As both water resources are easily accessible in the future, we will be able to prevent water shortage in industrial and domestic water use with the advanced water treatment technology.

TIWW WRA Pavilion Highlights Smart Water Solutions
As urban areas become highly developed and climate change continues to shape and alter our living situation worldwide, Taiwan also faces the threat of rapidly increasing water shortage and flood. Aside from fortifying all types of infrastructure, we should also introduce innovative disaster prevention smart technologies such as the smart water grid, and better water resource monitoring and management system. This way, we are able to distribute and exploit water resources with minimal waste and eventually create a resilient and high-quality water environment. These are definitely critical issues we must face in water management. Out of the three themed pavilions at TIWW 2022, the Smart Hydraulic Application Pavilion houses the most exhibitors. They present a wide variety of products and services including information system, measurement equipment, monitoring sensors, and smart water treatment equipment. The supervising authority and government agencies that oversee water business are also included in this pavilion. The phenomenon certainly indicates the pressing urgency of water problems in Taiwan.
